Georgia Mavrommati is an Assistant Professor of Ecological Economics in the School for the Environment at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research focuses on coupled human and natural systems (CHANS) and deliberative valuation. Her past work has revealed how human and natural systems' interactions amplify the need to move beyond the methodological barriers of single disciplines by integrating economics and aquatic ecology into CHANS. In her current work, she uses deliberative valuation methods to elicit social values towards ecosystem services and explore the role of social learning in preference construction. Her teaching is concentrated in the fields of environmental policy and management, sustainable development, and coupled social-ecological system dynamics. Her work has been published in several peer-reviewed papers, and she is leading the Ecological Economics and Systems Lab at UMass Boston.
