NSF Expands Regional Innovation Network with 12 New Innovation Engines

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the selection of 12 new Regional Innovation Engines, expanding a nationwide effort to strengthen America's research ecosystem, accelerate technology commercialization, and create high-quality jobs. The newly funded initiatives span 20 states and focus on advancing technologies that are expected to play a major role in the nation's future economy.

Each of the newly selected NSF Engines will receive an initial $15 million over the next two years to launch regional innovation ecosystems built around partnerships between universities, industry, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies. Teams that successfully achieve key milestones may become eligible for as much as $160 million in NSF support over the next decade, allowing them to expand their research, workforce development, and commercialization efforts.
